Sport Pilot License

This is a fairly new license that the FAA has started issuing:  Its beauty is its simplicity:

For a reduced number of training hours, you will limit yourself to

1. flying during daytime only

2. flying two-seat aircraft only

3. limit your operation to aircraft flying no faster than 87 knots (can be increased to 120 knots with addtional training and endorsements)

4. operating at 10,000 feet or less

5. operating within the borders of the USA exclusively! (no trips to Canada or Mexico, and beyond)

Why would I want to limit myself?

There are a number of reasons:  Many people fly just for the sake of being in the air - they do not need to travel with more than one other person; they just want to get a different perspective.

Also, this license does not require a medical certificate, which like a Damoclean Sword hangs over all pilots' activities every 6 months to 3 years, depending on what license you operate under, - with the exception of the Sports Pilot License.

Finally, to get a really good feel for the fun this kind of license can get you, visit the "Sport Aviation Expo," held every January in Sebring, FL.
